Besançon is the capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Seat of the Doubs department, it is located very close to the Swiss border and its capital Bern. In France, its geographical position is interesting. The Franc-Comtoise capital is located at the gates of both Alsace and the Jura. Besançon is also midway between Lyon and Strasbourg via the A6 and A36. Dijon, Montbéliard, Colmar and Vesoul are the major towns nearby.
The town enjoys a particularly pleasant and recognised living environment. France's top green town, it has an attractive, lively, dynamic, young image, turned towards innovation and science. It also has a rich history and particular architecture earning it the Town of Art and History label. With numerous listed monuments, Besançon can be proud of its history! The citadel and its ramparts, the work of Vauban, are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Besançon has 14 different neighbourhoods:
- La Boucle is the historic neighbourhood and hypercentre of Besançon,
- Batant is the other hypercentre neighbourhood, located on the right bank
- Les Chaprais, close to the hypercentre, with the Besançon-Mouillère station,
- Velotte, small neighbourhood with country-like looks,
- La Butte, pavilion area with detached houses,
- Saint-Ferjeux was formerly a true village; it has the basilica of the same name,
- Bregille is an affluent, residential and wooded neighbourhood, accessible via the Funicular of Bregille,
- Montrapon is particularly occupied by several scientific university sites,
- Saint-Claude, to the north, notably with the Cité des Montarmots,
This large town handling many vehicles every day, centre of the Grand Besançon Métropole, has adopted a very specific parking policy. What about parking rental in Besançon? What rental solutions are there for parking one's vehicle in the prefecture of Doubs? Yespark gives you all the necessary information to rent a parking space in the area.
Finding a parking space in Besançon
On-street parking in Besançon is organised into four distinct zones:
- the Chrono Zone where parking is limited to 1h30 maximum,
- the Mezzo Zone where parking is limited to 3 consecutive hours maximum,
- the Tempo Zone where parking is limited to 24h maximum,
- the Eco Zone where parking is limited to 24h maximum, but free at night from 7pm to 9am.
For the first three zones, parking is paid. Parking remains free on public holidays but also on Sundays. The supply of public car parks in the commune is rather developed with several paid car parks available: the Velotte, Glacis, Arènes, Marché Beaux Arts, Saint Paul, Rivotte, Pasteur, Petit Chamars and Chamars car parks.
The best solution for residents or shopkeepers concerned by the limiting zones is parking rental. You save considerable time by no longer having to look for a space every day. You pay your subscription without risking an FPS!

Top places where it is impossible to park: choose parking rental in Besançon
Several Besançon neighbourhoods are quickly saturated due to a lack of spaces. Yespark tells you the areas that are best avoided if you do not have a guaranteed parking rental in the area.
The hypercentre, the La Boucle and Batant neighbourhoods
Historic centre with local shops, tourist sites, monuments (Victor Hugo's birthplace, Citadel of Besançon) and services (town hall, police station, Finance centre), these two central neighbourhoods concentrate many points of interest. Also note the presence of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This therefore draws a large public every day.
Around Viotte station in the Chaprais neighbourhood
In the Chaprais neighbourhood, in the immediate vicinity of the historic centre, the Besançon-Viotte station attracts ever more travellers. Parking spaces are sought after by travellers in transit. The Parc des Glacis, the consulate of Algeria and the Rectorate of Besançon are also places found in this lively neighbourhood.
Montrapon and its university area
Another university sector, this neighbourhood, which is both residential and very student-oriented, brings together the ENSMM, the École Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique, the Observatoire des Sciences, the University of Sport and Science as well as residences. It is therefore an area where many vehicles meet during the day. Parking spaces are particularly sought after.
