Bordeaux, prefecture of Gironde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is a dynamic metropolis known worldwide for its outstanding heritage, its quays lining the Garonne and its art of living. The city's strong touristic and economic appeal, combined with its active mobility policy, makes parking in the city centre particularly competitive. To deal with this, Bordeaux has rolled out an ambitious parking policy and public car parks, with strict zoning, differentiated rates and a broad range of park-and-ride facilities. Yespark walks you through it.

Practical info:
Here are the best tips to park in Bordeaux without breaking your budget.
For a long visit, the "P+R + tram" combo is unbeatable
This is THE solution for day-trippers or tourists. For just €4.50, you park all day in a secure car park and you get two tram tickets to reach the city centre. It's much cheaper and less stressful than hunting for a space in the hyper-centre.
Residents, sign up for an annual or monthly plan
If you live in Bordeaux, the resident subscription is extremely good value:
These plans let you park freely in your resident area and are a considerable saving compared with visitor rates.
For professionals, rates are very competitive
Make the most of the 30 free minutes and off-peak hours for quick errands
For a quick errand in the city centre, the first 30 minutes cost €1.30 in the red zone and €0.90 in the green zone. Not free, but still affordable. For a dinner, prefer parking from 7pm, when it becomes free until 9am the next day.
Use the METPARK app for Q-Park car parks
The METPARK app is ideal for locating the Métropole car parks, estimating the cost and even viewing availability in real time.
Yes, you can park for free in Bordeaux, as long as you know the zones and the timeslots.
Free parking at "night" and weekends:
This is the most extensive and simplest free parking:
Free zones (Green Zone):
According to the Seety map, part of the city is classified as "Green Zone", where parking is free 7 days a week, 24/7. These areas are generally on the outskirts of the boulevards.
A few "insider" addresses in the city centre:
Here's the list of park-and-ride facilities (P+R) in Bordeaux and the surrounding area, with their addresses.
Some areas are known for their high parking pressure, which justifies the strict regulation in place.
Bordeaux Saint-Jean station is a major transit point, and ongoing works make things even trickier. Underground car parks like Gare Saint-Jean Armagnac are often full. A local tip is to park at Meunier car park (a 10-min walk away) or to book in advance on Yespark.
The Matmut Atlantique, in the Bordeaux-Lac district, is an ultra-modern stadium with over 42,000 seats, famous for its airy architecture borne by hundreds of white pillars.
It's particularly hard to park there because of strict traffic restrictions on event days: many adjacent streets are closed by prefectural order and parking is forbidden several hours before kick-off for security reasons.
This ring delimits the hyper-centre (where parking is paid). Streets just inside the boulevards are hotly contested, as they sit at the boundary between free and paid parking. Parking there is expensive and capped at 4h15.
Parking in this area is expensive (red zone rate) and very limited (max 4h15). Most streets are paid and monitored by "flasher cars" equipped with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition).
These lively districts (Chartrons, Saint-Michel, Capucins) draw in crowds of visitors, especially at weekends and on market days. Finding a space on a Saturday afternoon in these areas is a real challenge.
Bordeaux-Mérignac airport is the 8th busiest in France. With over 7.7 million passengers in 2019, traffic is heavy. While some opt for public transport to get there, others want to drop off their car.
On site, four car parks have been designed to serve travellers. The P4 is for people on a long stay, while the P3 is for travellers leaving for a weekend. Close to the terminals, these car parks offer some perks. They are, however, rather expensive, at €15 an hour for the P4. Lastly, traffic is dense, as airport growth is impressive (+13.3% between 2018 and 2019). As a result, the lack of space is real.
Faced with strong demand, especially in the city centre and business districts, Yespark connects you to private car parks from individuals and professionals. It's the ideal alternative if you're looking for a secure, dedicated monthly space, without the hassle of on-street parking.
Signing up is quick and commitment-free: in a few minutes, your space is waiting. You also get many benefits:
