Under the beautiful southern sun, Montpellier is well known for being congested and has a poor reputation for driving. Ring road works that drag on, a pedestrian town centre and paid parking make parking particularly complex. The town is split into three pricing zones. They are set up to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- The yellow zone in the town centre. Maximum stay 5h. The first hour costs you 2 €.
- The orange zone for the other neighbourhoods. Maximum stay 7h. The first hour costs you 1 €.
- The green zone concerns the outskirts of the town. Maximum parking stay 9h. The first hour costs 0.80 €.
FPS and parking meter in Montpellier: parking hell
The pay-and-display machines or parking meters on the roadway indicate the colour of the zone in which you are. Pricing applies Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Parking is then free at night, on Sundays and public holidays. Payment can be made traditionally by coin or card. More modern, the driver can pay their parking via a PayByPhone-type app to download on their smartphone.
The FPS or post-parking fixed fee is set at 17 € in the yellow or orange zone and 10 € in the green zone. The amount is increased if the offending driver does not pay their fine within 4 days.
