Where to find cheap parking in Nantes?
The Nantes metro area offers several solutions to park at low cost, whether you're a resident, visitor or professional.
Subscriptions in car parks
For those who park regularly, subscription plans (monthly, annual) are available from operators. They offer preferential rates compared to hourly parking. Ask directly on their website or on site.
Hourly parking in the city centre
For an occasional visit, hourly payment is possible in all car parks. Hourly rates are displayed at the entrance and vary with location and occupancy. Note that several car parks (like the "Parc en Enclos" type) prioritise short-term parking (under 2 hours).
Tips for paying less
- For a day-long visit, compare the cost between an off-street car park and on-street parking (especially in the cheaper yellow zone).
- Use the PayByPhone app to pay for your on-street parking, manage your duration remotely and only pay for the exact time.
- Check out the means-tested rates for residents offered by the city.
Where to find a free parking space in Nantes?
Several schemes let you park for free in Nantes.
Blue zones
In blue zones, located near local shopping areas, parking is free if you display a parking disc behind your windscreen.
- Maximum stay: 1h30.
- Days and hours: every day from 9am to noon and 2pm to 7pm (except Sundays and public holidays).
- The disc is available for free from shops located in these zones.
Free periods in paid zones
- Yellow zone: free parking on Sundays and public holidays, as well as from 14 July to 15 August.
- Red zone: free parking on Sundays and public holidays. Between noon and 2pm, the rate becomes very attractive at €0.50 per hour.
- Blue zone: free with disc (except Sundays and public holidays).
Very short-term parking
The Parking Gare limited 1h (Quai Malakoff) offers the first 30 minutes free for parking connected to the SNCF station.
Places where it's very hard to park in Nantes
The historic centre's layout and the city's density create strong pressure on parking in several key areas.
The station district
With the influx of SNCF, TER and tram travellers, the Nantes station area is extremely busy. The Gare Sud, Gare Château and 1h-limited Gare car parks are strategic but can quickly fill up at peak times.
The historic centre (Commerce, Bouffay, Cathédrale)
Around Place du Commerce, the Château des Ducs de Bretagne and the cathedral, the medieval streets offer few spaces. The Commerce, Decré-Bouffay, Feydeau and Cathédrale car parks are heavily used, especially at weekends and during school holidays.
The Graslin district and the Opéra
This lively cultural and commercial area, with its restaurants and theatres, sees strong demand in the evenings. The Graslin car park is a lifesaver, but can fill up quickly.
The Talensac market
On Fridays, Saturdays and especially Sunday mornings, the Talensac market draws a huge crowd. Parking is paid on Sunday mornings (9am-1pm) in the adjacent streets (Bel Air, Jeanne d'Arc, Basse Porte, Talensac). The Talensac car park is then the best option.
The CHU area (Hôtel Dieu, CHU)
With the CHU and the Hôtel Dieu, demand is constant during the day. The Baco-LU, Hôtel Dieu and CHU 1 & 2 car parks are heavily used by staff and visitors.
