Key points: Château de Vincennes (52 m keep), Town Hall, bois de Vincennes (995 ha), Saint-Louis church. Parking is complex despite the metro and RER.
Imposing, the château de Vincennes boasts one of Europe's tallest keeps, at 52 metres. This same keep would later serve as a prison before being converted into barracks by Napoleon I.
The château has been listed as a historic monument since 1993. You can get there via RER A, which stops at Vincennes, or via metro line 1, from the Château de Vincennes stop.
The town hall is particular, as it was built in two phases, 44 years apart. Its styles blend together, and so it's no surprise to spot decorations from the neo-Renaissance and art deco eras. The monumental staircase that leads to the upper floors is known worldwide, while its glass dome, weighing 30 tonnes, is listed as a historic monument.
The largest park in Paris, it covers 995 hectares. Several buildings and installations can be found there, such as the floral park or the zoological park. There's also the famous racecourse, hosting 153 meetings a year, roughly one race every two days. To get there, line 1 stops at Saint-Mandé, Bérault and Château de Vincennes stations. Line 8 stops at Porte Dorée, Porte de Charenton, as well as Liberté and Charenton-Écoles.
Listed as a historic monument since 1996 by the Ministry of Culture, Saint-Louis church is known for its magnificent interior decor. Ceramics, sculptures, paintings and stained glass mingle, giving the impression of being in a real museum. It is located at 23 rue Céline Robert.
As we've seen, the commune is very well connected to the Paris region's transport network. Metro line 1 stops there, as does RER line A. The Porte de Vincennes also lets you link up to Paris by road.
