Here are our tips to park smart without breaking the bank in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
For residents, the green zone subscription is very attractive
If you live within the paid zones (red, orange or green), you can benefit from a resident subscription which lets you park without time limit throughout the green zone. The rates are unbeatable:
The offer is limited to one vehicle per household. You can apply online on the town's citizen portal, or directly at the Centre-château car park counter (level -2), Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm.
For healthcare professionals and tradespeople, a dedicated subscription
Medical and paramedical professions (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, home carers) as well as tradespeople carrying out short-duration work in the town centre can subscribe to a professional subscription. Rates:
Use mobile apps to pay by the minute
Three apps are available to pay for your on-street parking: Néo Indigo, PayByPhone and PrestoPark. They let you pay only for the time actually used and extend remotely.
For a day or an evening, prefer purpose-built car parks
For medium or long-stay parking, underground car parks are often more attractive than on-street parking, where rates become prohibitive after a few hours. For example, at the Centre-château car park, preferential rates are offered for show evenings at the théâtre Alexandre-Dumas (1.50 € from 7pm to midnight on presentation of tickets).
The town offers many opportunities for free parking.
The 30 free minutes on-street
In all paid zones, you benefit from 30 minutes of free parking per day per vehicle. Remember to register your plate at the meter or via the mobile apps.
The Centre-château car park: up to 2 hours free
Since 1 July 2023, a very interesting measure has been in place at the Centre-château car park:
Free on-street car parks
Around 3,000 free spaces are available on-street, outside the red, orange and green zones. Among them, two blue zones are worth noting: the car park at the Dôme Saint-Germain-en-Laye (swimming pool) and the old cemetery.
Free parking at weekends and on public holidays
On-street parking is free on Sundays and public holidays, as well as during the summer period (although paid for the rest of the year, contrary to some misconceptions).
The town's layout, with its dense historic centre and strong appeal, creates parking pressure in several areas.
This sector, which includes the place du Général-de-Gaulle and the area around the château, is the nerve centre of the town. The red zone is limited to 2h15 of parking maximum, with a deterrent rate (1.50 € per hour) to encourage vehicle turnover.
With over 1,000 spaces, the Centre-château car park is strategic for transport users. On weekdays during peak hours, it can be full, and the adjoining streets come under heavy pressure.
On market days, turnout is at its highest around the place du Marché-Neuf and rue de Pologne. The Marché-Neuf car park (415 spaces) is an alternative, but it can quickly fill up.
The pedestrian streets in the town centre are closed to traffic and parking. The spaces available in the surrounding orange and green zones are highly contested, especially on Saturdays.
Faced with the demand, particularly near the RER, the town centre and business areas, finding a monthly space can be a challenge. Yespark makes life simpler by connecting you directly to the private car parks available in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and its surroundings.
Whether you are looking for a solution near the RER station, your workplace or in a residential neighbourhood, Yespark lets you access private car parks with no commitment.
Signing up is quick and no commitment : in just a few minutes, your space is waiting for you. You also benefit from many advantages:
The town has organised its on-street parking with several pricing zones, supplemented by blue zones and park-and-ride facilities.
Days and hours
Parking is payable Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm, including during the summer period. It is free on Sundays and public holidays.
The parking zones
The town is divided into several zones, with different goals and rates:
| Zone | Purpose | Maximum duration | Hourly rate (estimated) | Free period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red zone (hyper-centre) | Short-stay parking | 2h15 | 1.50 € | 30 min/day |
| Orange zone (centre) | Medium-stay parking | 3h15 | 1.20 € | 30 min/day |
| Green zone (outskirts) | Long-stay parking | 10h | 1.20 € (first hour) then degressive | 30 min/day |
Blue zones
Two zones are subject to a specific regulation with a parking disc: the car park at the Dôme Saint-Germain-en-Laye (swimming pool) and the old cemetery.
Motorbike parking
Motorbike parking is free and reserved for dedicated bays. Around 440 spaces are available in town.
The post-parking fixed fee (FPS)
In the event of non-payment or overstaying, you are liable for an FPS. Its amount is 25 € in the red and orange zones (reduced to 20 € if paid within 72h — according to other sources, to be confirmed). The increased amount can reach 75 €. The payment notice is sent by ANTAI to the address on your vehicle registration document.
